‘Quiet Space’ shopping hours at Kmart to provide a low-sensory shopping experience. This dedicated shopping period is for shoppers who are or who have a family member on the autism spectrum.
The “Quiet Space” program every Wednesday from 3.30pm to 5.30pm will involve changes to the in-store environment, including dimmed lighting, quieter music, register and scanner volumes, and limited trolley collections. No PA announcements will be made unless there is an emergency, and more team members will be available to support customers.
“We understand retail stores are high-sensory environments and we hope the introduction of ‘Quiet Space’ will giver some of our Kmart customers and communities time and space to calm their sensory systems,” said the Wesfarmers-owned chain.
Kmart’s aim of the program is to create an accessible, inclusive and welcoming environment for all shoppers.
